Mehari 4×4
It spent most of its hours in 4×4-mode in the Aveyron region. Climbing hills, trailing forest paths or crossing water. We’re not sure, as only the hour counter and the old license plate are our witnesses. In 2010 it came from France to Holland, to our showroom. Just for a short while, then it went to Switzerland, happily ploughing through the snow. A hardtop was fitted, as it holds the inches of snow better than canvas.
It was built December 16th ’82, in the last model year of the production starting in ’79. It was one of the last of the 1213 ever produced. Not as rare as a Sahara, but it’s close.
These later models had modified side panels, with rectangular wheel arches and higher raised sills for more ground clearance. There were several options available, this 4×4 was fitted with the 14-inch wheels and the spare wheel in the bonnet. Standard equipment are the more sturdy bumpers, disc brakes on the rear wheels, a differential lock and a set of 3 levers coming from the dashboard.
With the black one you go through normal gears, the white one will add 4×4 and the red one gives a reduction, to get even more grip on the terrain.
The engine drives the rear transmission box via an axle through the special chassis, not with 2 engines like its 2cv predecessor. But it’s not necessary either as it gives more power on its own than the 2x 12HP in a Sahara.
It can be seen as a true collectable, but you can explore your meadow or the closest sand dune as well. Think or dream about it.
